Video: Sunswick 35/35!

In 2005, in a rather desolate block of Astoria, the doors opened to a friendly, homey beer bar that nailed down a corner of the neighborhood, and some say, paved the way for a renaissance in this part of NYC that now includes 5 Napkin Burger and a cluster of new fancy bars and restaurants. But these guys were there first.

There is Joy in Mudville 9!!!

Hey Mr McGlass-heads, Jeff here! I found myself down on Chambers, here in NYC, early yesterday evening, and I had about 30 minutes to kill. It was a perfect opportunity to check out Mudville 9, a place I'd heard about for years. It has a fun, rustic setting going on, almost rural. My kinda place. You'd never know you were in the financial district, if it wasn't for all the suits! But you can tell it's a hot spot down there because it was packed!

They said they had the Gubna, but had just tapped out. (Oh Why does that keep happening?? :) so I went with Brother Thelonious (in the great stride piano tradition) from North Coast; Missing California I guess. It was my first time having it, and wow was it great! A wonderful sipping beer! So good, it had me hummin some April in Paris...

Anyway, I didn't have time to check out their food, but a sign said they won Best Wings in New York in 2007. And you know as well as I that THAT was a good year for Wings! :)

So, if you're ever in this hood, it's definitely worth a stop by, to Raise a glass to Happy Hour Nation. That's what I'm talkin about.
Hope all's good.

Whisky LIVE NYC!

The Guys made a nice an appearance at the Whisky LIVE event at Chelsea Pier 60 in NYC this evening, reconvening with old friends and making new ones.  We very much enjoyed getting a chance to hang out with our friends from Four Roses Distillery in KY, and made some new great friends at thatgirlattheparty.com - y'all should definitely go and check those gals out!

pixelation?  Or too many whiskies?

Our good friends at Four Roses distillery definitely hooked us up.  Goodness, what wonderful bourbon!

With Hollis Bulleit (of Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit Rye) at Whisky LIVE.  I'm the one without the headdress.  Not that I'm against headdresses, it just didn't fit in my suitcase.

Video: Sardi's with The Phantom of the Opera.

Since March 5, 1927, Sardi's has been located at 234 West 44th Street in the heart of New York City's Broadway theatre district. Sardi's has attracted virtually every theatre luminary during its day and many of them now appear in caricatures hanging throughout the restaurant. It was during the golden era of Broadway that Sardi's became the spot to see and be seen; an after theatre gathering place and scene of many Broadway opening night parties. Today. Sardi's is a New York icon and still home away from home for actors, producers and anyone who loves theatre and Broadway. The Guys visit with the cast of another NY fixture, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Cheese crocks and hilarity ensue...

Video: The Happy Hour Guys got a pony! The Pony Bar!

Mark and Jimmy find a real reason to celebrate in Midtown Manhattan with the arrival of The Pony Bar, an oasis of American Craft Beer on 45th and 10th. Owner Dan McLaughlin's inviting space features 20 draft lines of beer and two cask ales that are always rotating, providing for new taste experiences every time you come in the door. Add to that the Pony All American Club, their Brewery Tours, a solid kitchen menu and a great staff, and you've got a place that's sure to be in New York for a long, long time. If you're within a hundred mile radius, saddle up and head over to The Pony. Cheers!

Video: Hooked at Lure Fish Bar!

The Guys make their way to SOHO, the iconic NYC neighborhood full of great stories, stellar shops, and fantastic bars. We came downtown in search of the best happy hour ever, and Lure Fish Bar has, no joke, perhaps the finest 5-7PM weekday slot we have ever experienced. And that's really saying something, because... well, we're The Happy Hour Guys! Seriously - if you're within 500 Nautical miles of SOHO, head to the poop deck and turn your ship in Lure's direction. Say hello to Josh, Mim, Kelly and the whole crew, and if you have half as much fun as we had, you'll be in safe harbor indeed. The oysters are fresh, the drinks are amazing, and the prices, well... they lie many fathoms deep. Anchors Aweigh!
